Rosen lofted a deep post, but Kenneth Walker III couldn’t bring it in. That’s OK. The rest of Rosen’s debut was a smashing success in No. 13 UCLA’s 34-16 victory against Virginia. Rosen finished 28-of-35 passing for 351 yards and three TDs.

Here’s a closer look at Rosen’s amazing debut:

Rosen’s first pass turned out to be his only incompletion of the first quarter. Rosen hit five different receivers. Rosen’s best throw came on a step-up for a corner route to Thomas Duarte for 16 yards between zone coverage. A four-yard TD to Devin Fuller followed on the next play.
Second quarter
Second-quarter line: 11 of 15, 110 yards, TD Halftime line: 17 of 22, 175 yards, two TDs

On UCLA’s second drive, Rosen hit fullback Nate Iese for 37 yards, which set up Myles Jack’s touchdown run.
Rosen then found Walker in the seam for a 35-yard gain. Then he ran a play-action bootleg three-yard touchdown pass to 310-pound defensive lineman Kenny Clark. A look at Rosen’s third touchdown pass:
On the next drive, Rosen hit another double move, this time to Jordan Payton, for 41 yards. That closed out the quarter
Fourth quarter
Fourth-quarter line: 1 of 1, three yardsFinal line: 28 of 35, 351 yards, 3 TDs
Rosen completed one pass before being replaced by Jerry Neuheisel.
Verdict
Rosen hype is coming, and it might be deserved. A freshman quarterback doesn’t show command of an offense like that often. UCLA’s season continues at UNLV next week, and don’t be suprised if the Bruins push into the Top 10 soon.
