Sure, the Cleveland ace is a legitimate contender to win the AL Cy Young Award, but the entire pitching staff has been nominated for an award that carries even greater national significance.

The “Robert Goulet Memorial Mustached American of the Year” award.

 Yup.

Mustaches.

The entire pitching staff will go up against the likes of former U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder and Bernie Brewer, along with several other worthy nominees. From the American Mustache Institue:

You’re probably confused, and that’s OK.

First, Robert Goulet, the man the award is named after, was a popular singer and actor who was known for his trademark mustache. Will Ferrell famously impersonated him on episodes of Saturday Night Live.

Indians releiver T.J. House, who sports a an excellent fu-manchu, was floored by the nomination. From TribeVibe Blog:

“I’m really surprised, myself, because I didn’t know this award was out there,” he said. “Also, I’m excited to see all those good staches recognized. I think the staff should win the award because we brought good awareness to a great cause — raising awareness for the extinction of mustaches.”

The award will be announced on Oct. 25 in Richmond, Va.
