In a sneak peek for Thursday’s midseason finale, titled, “Let’s All Go to the Bar,” everyone at the Seattle hospital is thrilled to have Meredith Grey (Ellen Pompeo) back on staff. Meredith’s medical license was reinstated after a heart-racing final meeting with the medical board during last week’s episode, and Miranda Bailey (Chandra Wilson) finally came to her senses and rehired the phenomenal surgeon.
Back in her lab coat and scrubs, Meredith is greeted with hugs from just about all the doctors when she arrives to the hospital in the newly released video clip. The only person who doesn’t seem all that excited by her return is her old flame Andrew DeLuca (Giacomo Gianniotti).
In the clip, Andrew approaches the welcome back committee and asks, “They rehired you?”
Meredith replies: “I was gonna tell you but you were too busy dumping me.”
Her relationship with the young doctor may be on the outs, but Meredith likely won’t let it take up too much of her energy. After spending the last few weeks jobless and cleaning up roadside trash as a part of her probation, nothing’s getting in the way of her happiness back at the hospital. “Get your residents together, it’s time for rounds,” she tells DeLuca in the clip.
From the looks of the clip, that’s where the party ends for the doctors. A flash featuring Jackson Avery (Jesse Williams) and Catherine Fox (Debbie Allen) reveals scandal on the horizon for Catherine’s marriage to Richard Webber (James Pickens Jr.). Catherine knows her husband has been fooling around with his former AA buddy, Gemma (Jasmine Guy). In fact, she may have even caught Richard committing an adulterous act.
“You saw Richard having sex with somebody in his office?” a shell-shocked Jackson asks Catherine.
Things are likely to only escalate from there. If it’s one thing Grey’s has a history of, it’s leaving fans with a jaw-dropping cliffhanger at the midseason point, and it seems as though Season 16’s will be intertwined with Station 19.
The episode synopsis teased Jackson will be making a big step in his relationship with Vic (Barrett Doss), the firefighter from the ABC show he’s been seeing more frequently, and she’s spotted in the fall finale sneak peek too, but it may not be for matters of the heart. A few scenes in the episode trailer hint something tragic is about to happen and it’ll involve members of the Station 19 crew, too.
In one stressful clip, Maggie Webber (Kelly McCreary) is on edge beside the operating table. Something terrible happened and a firefighter may be involved. Or is something going on with Bailey? Her husband and Station 19 firefighter Ben Warren (Jason Winston George) runs through the hospital halls in panic in the clip as Maggie frantically shouts, “This can’t be happening.”
Grey’s Anatomy Season 16 midseason finale is set to air on ABC on Thursday at 8 p.m. ET. Viewers can tune in via live stream on ABC’s website and app, while those with Hulu Live TV subscriptions can catch the episode in real-time there. Hulu customers with standard services will be able to view the episode after it airs On-Demand.
